Trip Report: Murrieta Falls March 2000

I found one hardy soul to come with me on this very challenging hike. We hiked up one long hill, then down a long hill where we had to ford a stream, then up a really long hill, then down a short hill to the falls. The falls were a tad bit dissappointing. The only view of the falls we could find without wandering down a steep scary looking trail was from right at the top where you could not get a good idea of the size of the falls. We did enjoy stopping for lunch here. The view was nice, even if it wasn't of the falls. After lunch we retraced our steps. At first we were looking forward to having more downhill on the way back to the cars, but by the last down hill we were pining for flat or uphill. After 14 miles of up and down, our poor legs felt quite battered! However, we were quite happy to have done such a challenging hike on a really beautiful sunny day. This is definitley a spring hike because in the summer the falls dry out and it would be torture to climb those hills in the heat of summer! It took my muscles till Thursday to fully recover from this hike!
