Trip Report: San Bruno Hike, November 2000

Three of us showed up for a pleasant hike in this small park in South San Francisco. We parked the car at the lot near the native plant garden and headed up the Eucalyptus, and Dairy Ravine trails up to the top of San Bruno mountain. The elevation gain was not bad as it was somewhat spread out with no real steep bits. We stopped at some of the benches for a rest and to check out the views. The view on one side of the mountain was of warehouses and San Bruno city neighborhoods and on the other side was a view of the San Francisco airport and South San Francisco neighborhoods. Closer in we did have great views of San Bruno park itself.

On the top of the mountain we settled down for lunch. We had nice chat and rest and then headed off on the Summit loop trail back down to the cars. Near the bottom of the descent we thought we saw a cemetary. However the binoculars showed us that it was actually a collection of tree stumps -- a cemetary of sorts I guess! When we got back to the cars we spent a little bit of time checking out the native plant garden. The plants were nicely labeled in the garden and we were able to identify some of the plants we had seen on the mountian. All in all, we had a great time.
