Trip Report: Shoreline Bicycle Ride, August 2000

This event was co-listed with Wilderness Women and we had a total of 9 riders. It was a sunny but cool summer day, perfect weather for riding along the Bay! Many of the women were not from the South Bay and had never been on the Stevens Creek Trail. We rode along this new bike path to Shoreline Park, where we had a bathroom break. From there we took a paved bike path to the Palo Alto Baylands. We stopped at the Baylands Interpretive Center to look around, although it was closed at the time. The Center opens in the afternoon on weekends and we were there too early. But the main purpose of the ride was to enjoy the birds and views of the Bay. We returned to Shoreline Park by a different route which was not paved. The gravel was well packed so even those of us with road bikes had no problem riding on it and the scenery was better than the paved route. At Shoreline, we ate lunch at Michael's Cafe. We sat outside with our bicycles nearby and had a leisurely lunch. Then we returned back to the starting location in Mtn. View, although a couple of riders went directly home from lunch. Overall, it was a prefect ride on a perfect day!
