Point Lobos Hike
March 12, 2005

Four of us had a marvelous time hiking around the Point Lobos State Reserve on Saturday, March 12, 2005. We started at the sea lion point parking area and hiked out to look at sea lion rock. It was a foggy day but the visibility was still pretty good and the temperature was comfortable with a good jacket keeping out the cool air. From sea lion rock we hiked about 2 miles to the picnic area and had a nice lunch. We were joined by a very handsome white sea gull with yellow feet. The gull obviously was used to hand outs as he got quite close to us as we were eating.

After lunch we headed to Bird rock. It was an awesome view with lots of cormorants all over the rock. We viewed the rock from Pelican point. As we hiked one of us accidently touched some poison oak but another of us whipped out the Tecnu soap to wash off the poison right after it happened. We didn't stay too long as the smell wafting in from bird rock was very strong.

We hiked back to the cars where one of us took off for home while the rest of us hiked to Cypress Grove and Whalers Cove. On the way to Whaler's Cove we saw a bunch of sea lions relaxing on a beach. I got a couple of good pictures of them. We finished up our hike around 3:30 p.m. and had a suprisingly easy drive back to Mountain View.
